A 33-year-old chartered accountant was found dead and unclothed in a hotel room in Kolkata’s Kasba area last Saturday (November 22). The accused, identified as live-in partners Komal Saha and Dhruba Mitra, were arrested for allegedly plotting to extort money from the victim, Adarsh Losalka, after befriending him on a dating app and offering sexual services. He was reportedly killed after refusing to pay the ₹20,000 demanded by the woman.

"The accused had been changing their statements since their arrest on Sunday," a senior police official associated with the murder investigation said.

How Did The Murder Was Executed

According to police sources, Komal and Dhruba allegedly pressured Losalka to pay Rs 20,000 online, despite having agreed on Rs 2,000 through the app.

During questioning, Komal stated that Losalka had booked two hotel rooms online. She and Dhruba first entered one room together. After about ten minutes, Komal went to Losalka’s room, where hotel staff later delivered beer he had ordered. CCTV footage also captured Losalka briefly stepping out to collect packets of chips.

A short while later, Komal and Dhruba were seen talking at length in the corridor, moments police believe they used to plan the extortion. Komal then returned to Losalka’s room.

“They searched for money in the room and after not receiving the money they expected, the duo took Rs 1,500 from his wallet,” said the officer.

Investigators said that Losalka had been drinking heavily. Once he fell asleep, Komal called Dhruba from the adjoining room. When Dhruba entered, Losalka woke up and was startled to see him. The duo then demanded Rs 20,000 via online transfer.

When Losalka refused to pay or share his PIN and allegedly began abusing Komal, Dhruba punched him. They tied his legs with a towel, dragged him from the bed onto the floor, and allegedly smothered him with a bedsheet, killing him.

CCTV footage later showed the pair running through the hotel corridor. Around 2:30 am, Komal and Dhruba were seen leaving Losalka’s room for the next one. Komal collected her bag, and both moved to the first floor before leaving the hotel and fleeing the area, police said.
