A 22-year-old woman’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase on the banks of a creek in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Her live-in partner has been arrested for allegedly killing her on November 21 following an argument, and dumping the body near the creek the next day.
The woman was identified as Priyanka Vishwakarma whose body was discovered on Monday under a creek bridge near Desai village. The initials “P V S” were found tattooed on her wrist, police said in a statement.
Officers suspected that the body had been stuffed into a suitcase to dispose of it in the creek and registered a case of murder. Using information collected from social media and CCTV footage, police traced and detained Vinod Srinivas Vishwakarma (50) from Desai village.
During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to killing Priyanka. Police said the victim had been living with the accused for the past five years. On the night of November 21, a heated argument broke out between them, during which he allegedly strangled her to death.
He reportedly kept the body in their house for a day, but as decomposition began and the smell spread, he stuffed it into a suitcase, carried it to the creek, and threw it off the bridge on the night of November 22.
The accused was arrested on Tuesday and charged with murder and destroying evidence, police added.
In a separate incident, a couple was found dead inside their home in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur on Monday, with lipstick-written messages on the walls hinting at a possible murder-suicide. The victims, identified as Shivani “Neha” Tambe (30) and her husband, Raj Tambe, appeared to have been caught in a cycle of mistrust and frequent arguments. Police said Neha was found dead on the bed while Raj was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan. The writings accused a man named Rajesh Vishwas of disrupting their marriage and included emotional notes such as “Children, I love you.”

Neha’s mother discovered the tragedy when she found the door locked from the inside. Forensic experts noted scratch marks on Neha’s neck, suggesting she may have been strangled before Raj died by suicide. Police have registered a case and are investigating all angles, with the forensic report expected to clarify the sequence of events.
