Defence Minister Rajnath Singh performed the "Shastra Puja" ceremony in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang and joined Army soldiers in celebrating Dussehra in the strategically significant region near the China border. The defence minister accompanied by the army chief General Manoj Pande inspected the operational preparedness of the Indian armed forces on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) while applauding the unwavering sacrifice and contributions of the personnel.

During his interaction with soldiers at various forward posts, he underscored the significance of enhancing the country's security given the current global scenario. The celebration of Dussehra at a military base close to the LAC coincides with the ongoing standoff between India and China in eastern Ladakh for more than three years. After performing the "Shastra Puja," Singh explained that Dussehra symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. Additionally, he paid homage to fallen soldiers at the Tawang war memorial, recognizing their sacrifices during the 1962 war with China.

The defence minister expressed gratitude to the soldiers for their "unyielding spirit, unwavering commitment and unparalleled courage" while guarding the borders in tough conditions, and ensuring that the nation and its people are safe, reported PTI.

"No amount of appreciation is enough for the way you are guarding the border in difficult circumstances. I want to tell you that the people of the country are proud of you," he told the troops.

In his remarks, Singh said all efforts are being made to strengthen the nation's military prowess through indigenous production of defence equipment.
"Earlier, we used to rely on imports to upgrade our military. But today, a number of major weapons and platforms are being manufactured within the country," he said.

"Foreign companies are being encouraged to share their technology and produce the equipment in India with domestic industry. In 2014, the value of defence exports was about Rs 1,000 crore, but today we are exporting defence equipment worth thousands of crores," he said.

Addressing the soldiers, the defence minister characterized the bravery and principles of the armed forces as a living embodiment of the Vijayadashmi festival's ethos. Singh has consistently conducted the "Shastra Puja" ritual during Dussehra for several years, even during his tenure as the Union Home Minister in the previous NDA government.
