Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured that the name of Dehradun's Miyawala area won't be changed after the Rajput community of the area opposed it. Earlier, the government had planned to rename 15 places to reflect Indian culture and heritage, with Miyawala proposed to be renamed as Ramjiwala. However, this suggestion was met with opposition from the local residents.

Upon learning about the proposed name change, the local residents of Miyawala protested. It is believed that the title "Mian" was given to the people of Guler Riyasat by the rulers of Tehri Garhwal. While Guler Riyasat is now part of Himachal Pradesh, the Tehri rulers had allocated land to them in Miyawala, which is currently in Dehradun. This area is considered an important part of the Guler Rajputs' identity.

On Saturday, a large group of local residents, led by BJP leader Kuldeep Butola, met with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to protest the proposed name change. They urged the CM to retain the current name. In response, the Chief Minister assured them and directed officials not to proceed with the name change.

They emphasised that the new name reflected Indian culture and public sentiment. However, the local residents protested, explaining the historical significance of the name Miyawala. As a result, it was decided that the name would remain unchanged.
