A person died and six others were injured after a plowed into them in east Delhi’s Ghazipur area on Wednesday. The accident occurred around 9 pm, leading to an outburst of public anger. A video of the incident on social media shows a mob damaging the car and assaulting the driver, who was later hospitalised with serious injuries.

Locals, who were present at the incident spot, alleged that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the incident. Police have launched a probe into the accident and are awaiting medical tests to confirm the allegations. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle is now in police custody and is facing legal proceedings.

"A total of seven people with injuries were admitted to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. Five of them were women and two were men," Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Apoorva Gupta said, adding that a woman,  identified as Sita Devi (22), a resident of Ghaziabad, later succumbed to her injuries.

"The accused is in police custody and legal action is being taken," the DCP said. Meanwhile, a police investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the incident.

In another news, a landslide claimed the life of a labourer during construction work in Tamil Nadu’s Ooty on Wednesday. Police reported that the landslide occurred at a site opposite the arboriculture park in the Nilgiris district, which is owned by an individual named Chandran.

Two workers from Jharkhand, aged 23 and 22, were caught in the landslide. The fire department responded promptly to the emergency call and managed to rescue both individuals. However, despite their efforts, one of the labourers, Rishwan, did not survive the injuries sustained during the incident.
