Delhi-NCR Pollution: Delhi-NCR experienced hazardous air quality, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) was categorised as "very poor," with a reading of 342, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Wednesday.
At 4 pm, the 24-hour average AQI was 342, compared to 372 on Tuesday and 304 on Monday, according to the CPCB.
Out of 39 monitoring stations, 32 recorded AQI levels in the "very poor" range, with readings exceeding 300, according to the CPCB's Sameer app.
The highest AQI of 378 was recorded at Nehru Nagar. Other areas with "very poor" air quality included RK Puram, Burari, Anand Vihar, Mundka, Bawana, Vivek Vihar, Alipur, Shadipur, and North Campus.
According to the CPCB's standards, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".
According to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the city's AQI is likely to remain in the "very poor" category over the next few days. The forecast also predicts mist and haze during the night.
Delhi experienced its coldest December day so far this year on Wednesday, with the maximum temperature dropping to 23.7 degrees Celsius, which was 1.6 degrees below the season's normal.
The second lowest maximum temperature of the season was recorded at 24.3 degrees Celsius in November.
The lowest maximum temperature in November last year was 14.6 degrees Celsius, according to data from India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The minimum temperature on Wednesday stood at 6.4 degrees Celsius, 3.1 notches below normal, according to the IMD.
