Non-BS-6 Vehicles Ban in Delhi: Imposing fresh restrictions to curb the worsening air quality in the National Capital, Delhi, the government has announced that only BS-6 compliant vehicles from outside will be permitted to enter the city from December 18.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday said that vehicle owners without a valid PUCC will be denied fuel at petrol pumps from Thursday. Along with the aforementioned restrictions, the government has announced that trucks carrying construction material will face heavy penalties and that the vehicles will be seized.

Sirsa said that vehicles will be given one day to comply with the new rule, adding, "After tomorrow, vehicles that do not have a valid PUC certificate will not be provided fuel.”

Air Quality Better Than Last Year: Sirsa

Asserting that Delhi’s air quality remained better for the last eight months when compared to the same period last year, Sirsa acknowledged that pollution levels have deteriorated. But assured that the situation is still better than last year because the government has taken fruitful measures to curb pollution in the city over the last 10 months. 

Sirsa Blames AAP For 'Distorting Delhi

Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sirsa accused the party of 'distorting Delhi' during its rule and now trying to divert attention by staging protests over pollution. He questioned what real steps AAP had taken to control pollution when it was in power, calling the protests a political stunt.

Highlighting the current government’s efforts, Sirsa said daily measures are being implemented, including reducing the height of garbage mountains by 15 metres and 
Cleaning and reclaiming 45 acres of land.
