After the roof of the forecourt at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) collapsed, the operations of flights at Terminal 1 were halted on Saturday. All flights from Terminal 1 have been transferred to Terminals 2 and 3. At present, there is no information on when flight operations will resume at the terminal, but it is anticipated that it could take more than two months.

On Saturday, there was significantly less activity at Terminal 1. In such a situation, it is difficult to say when flight operations at Terminal 1 will return to normal. On Saturday morning, the Airport Authority informed that flight operations at Delhi Airport are running normally. All flights are being operated from Terminals 2 and 3.

Approximately 1,400 flights are operated daily from all three terminals of IGI Airport. The majority of these flights are operated from Terminals 2 and 3. Domestic flights by IndiGo and SpiceJet are operated from Terminal 1.

For the convenience of passengers, IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued helpline numbers. Any issues regarding flights are continuously being updated on their websites. After the roof collapsed at IGI Airport on Friday night, approximately 70 per cent of the passengers rescheduled their travel for the next day, while 30 per cent opted for a refund.

The canopy of the airport fell after heavy rain lashed the national capital. The incident led to the death of a taxi driver, Ramesh Kumar. 45-year-old Kumar was taken out of a car and crushed under the iron beam. He was pronounced dead upon reaching Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital.

The Union Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, visited the incident site to take stock of the situation.

In response to the incident, airlines have been directed not to increase airfares. To prevent future occurrences, a special team from IIT Delhi's structural department has been brought in for an initial inspection and based on that necessary action will be taken. Additionally, structural preliminary inspections are being conducted at all airports nationwide, with reports expected within 2-5 days.
