Delhi Airport Update: The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) on Friday announced the cancellation of 114 flights daily for a period of three months starting from June 15. The cancellation totals approximately 7.5 percent of total operations.
The flight cancellations have been announced due to the upgrade work on the airport's key runway, RW 10/28. The runway will remain closed from June 15 to September 15 as the airport is working on infrastructure enhancements to improve flight safety and operational efficiency, especially during fog conditions when visibility remains low.
ILS upgradation to Cat III standards
As part of the upgrade, the DIAL will enhance the Instrument Landing System (ILS) to Category III (CAT III) standards.
While speaking in a press conference, DIAL CEO Videsh Kumar Jaipuriar said that the suspension of flights has been carefully planned so as to minimise the inconvenience for the passengers. He said, "We handle around 1,450 flight movements a day. Of these, only 114 operations will be cancelled, and another 86 flights will be rescheduled to off-peak hours."
Terminals at Delhi's IGI
As of now, the Delhi Airport operates four runways: RW 09/27, RW 11L/29R, RW 11R/29L, and RW 10/28. There are three terminals T1, T2, and T3, out of which T2 is temporarily closed for maintenance.

According to the information, the upgrade on RW 10/28 started on April 8 but was stalled due to unexpected congestion caused by changed weather conditions. Although, the normal flight operations will start from September 15, the ILS upgradation work will continue till November, just ahead the starts of fog in winters.
DIAL has assured that the rescheduling process was implemented in coordination with all stakeholders.
