An IndiGo flight travelling from Raipur to Delhi faced a harrowing experience on Sunday evening after encountering severe turbulence caused by a dust storm over the capital. The pilot of flight 6E 6313 was forced to abort the landing at the last minute due to dangerously high wind speeds, circling the airport before eventually landing safely once conditions improved.
According to ANI, visuals from the scene showed the aircraft hovering in the skies before making a successful landing at Delhi Airport. After aborting the initial descent, the pilot updated passengers, revealing that wind speeds had surged up to 80 kmph, prompting a decision to ascend again until it was safe to approach the runway.

This incident occurred just days after another IndiGo flight encountered extreme weather. A Srinagar-bound flight had departed from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and soon ran into violent turbulence, getting caught in a severe hailstorm near Pathankot, Punjab.
Due to the hazardous conditions, the flight crew sought permission to divert into Pakistani airspace to bypass the storm. However, both the Indian Air Force’s Northern Control and Pakistan’s Lahore Air Traffic Control denied the request, as Pakistan has closed its airspace to Indian commercial flights amidst ongoing diplomatic tensions.

During the turbulence, the aircraft experienced a dramatic descent of 8,500 feet per minute. Despite the severe weather and damage to the aircraft’s nose radome, the flight managed to land safely in Srinagar.
The flight disruptions coincided with adverse weather conditions across Delhi-NCR on Sunday evening. Parts of the city witnessed light rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds. Wind speeds surged notably in areas such as Palam and Jharoda Kalan, recording 65 kmph and 37 kmph respectively around 4:30 pm. Meanwhile, a thundersquall passed over Safdarjung between 4:35 and 4:37 pm, with wind speeds peaking at 66 kmph.
