The Delhi government on Thursday announced a two-day work-from-home every week for the public sector employees, after the prime minister made an appeal to curb the use of petrol, diesel and gas due to an energy crunch, triggered by tensions in West Asia. 

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta made the announcement as part of a public campaign, 'Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdaan' (My India, My Contribution).

"Keeping in mind the appeal made to every citizen in the national interest and understanding the current circumstances, the Delhi Government has prepared certain plans to maintain stability in the country and ensure economic balance. Under a public campaign called ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdaan’ (My India, My Contribution), we want to outline what we, both as a government and as individuals, can do for the city of Delhi," she said during a press conference in the capital.

Under the campaign, she said the primary focus is on saving fuel by reducing its consumption. She said the campaign has been divided into two levels: government and private.

While announcing two-day work-from-home per week, she said that private firms and institutions will be advised to follow the same formula in the second level.

Rekha Gupta, ministers slash convoy size 

Delhi CM Gupta, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's advice, has reduced her convoy by 60 per cent. Her convoy now consists of just four vehicles, two of which are EVs.

She added that the number of vehicles for all ministers has also been reduced. Where possible, we will also use public transport. Those who had a 200-litre petrol limit will now have 160 liters. Those who used to receive 250 litres of fuel will now receive 200 litres.

Office timings have also changed

Every Monday, officers and employees will use the Metro whenever possible, observing 'Metro Monday'. Office hours have changed. Delhi government offices will now operate from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. All Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
