Delhi bakery owner Puneet Khurana (40) was found hanging in his home in Model Town's Kalyan Vihar area on Tuesday. Khurana was reportedly "upset with his wife," whom he married in 2016. The couple co-owned ‘For God's Cake’ bakery and another establishment, ‘Woodbox Cafe’. However, Woodbox Cafe had closed some time ago.
Trilok Nath Khurana, Puneet’s father, has levelled fresh accusations against his in-laws, seeking justice. Speaking to the media, he revealed that his daughter-in-law's family had taken Rs 1.35 crore from them under the pretext of business before the wedding. However, after the couple's separation, the money was reportedly converted into property, as reported by News 18.
The deceased’s father also claimed that he gave an additional 30 lakhs to Puneet’s father-in-law Jagdish Pahwa in instalments as Pahwa told him that he was in financial strain. However, Pahwa did not pay the interest, Khurana added.
In an October 2023 video, Puneet Khurana is seen speaking with his father-in-law, Jagdish Pahwa, who offers Rs 2 crore in return for a house. However, Jagdish later withdrew this offer. According to Puneet's family, he was frequently under pressure because of such situations and was often threatened by his father-in-law.
Following Puneet’s death, his grieving family demanded justice for him. Speaking to news agency ANI, his mother said, “For a year, they [Khurana and Pahwa] were fine, but after that, there were frequent issues between the two of them. I even separated them at one point, thinking it would bring them happiness. But even then, she continued to torture my child. My son quietly endured it all.”
“Sometimes it was about money, sometimes about their joint business, and other times family matters. My son never spoke openly, not to his mother or father. He would think, ‘Why burden my parents with tension?’ He kept swallowing his sorrow and pain silently, and I don’t know what she did yesterday. Earlier, he had recovered, but yesterday, she tortured him so much that he took this step,” she added.
