Dr Muzammil Shakil, who had been practising medicine at Al-Falah University in Dhauj, Faridabad, for the past three years, was arrested 12 days ago. He had recently gone on a 15-day vacation, during which he also visited Pulwama. According to investigators, Dr Muzammil met several acquaintances during his trip and allegedly collected explosives.
As per a report by Jagran.com, an officer involved in the probe revealed that Dr Muzammil had been planning to rent another house in Fatehpura Taga and had made inquiries with locals, including the area Imam. After returning from vacation, he reportedly spent a night at the Imam’s residence in Fatehpura Taga.
Police later recovered 360 kg of ammonium nitrate, a rifle, and other weapons from a property located on University Road, within the Dhauj police station limits. The site included a cement warehouse with rented rooms, one of which Dr Muzammil had leased on September 13. On Tuesday, a CID team from the Panchkula headquarters, led by SP Jitesh Gahlawat, conducted an investigation at the location.
Investigators also found that a female doctor, identified as Dr Shaheen, had provided Dr Muzammil with a car. She was known to mentor and guide junior doctors at the hospital, and both she and Dr Muzammil were often seen having lunch together. The same car owned by Dr Shaheen was reportedly used by Dr Muzammil.
According to the investigating officer, there are indications that Dr Shaheen may have influenced or “brainwashed” students under the pretext of mentoring them. The investigation team visited the university campus on Tuesday and questioned several junior doctors and students regarding her involvement.
About Dr Shaheen
Dr Shaheen, arrested from Faridabad, was reportedly the girlfriend of terrorist suspect Dr Muzammil Shakil. Police sources said she was linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed’s (JeM) secret network and had previously worked as an assistant professor at GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, before disappearing in 2013 and being dismissed in 2021. She later joined Al-Falah University. Investigators allege she was tasked with setting up JeM’s women’s wing in India and was in contact with Sadiya Azhar, sister of JeM chief Masood Azhar, as part of the group’s Jamaat-ul-Mominaat network.
