In a new development in the ongoing investigations of the Delhi Red Fort Blasts, agencies have found that Mirza Shadab Baig, accused in the infamous 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts and the 2007 Gorakhpur Blast Case, was also associated with the Al Falah University in Faridabad. The university has come under intense scrutiny after the Red Fort Blast, which took place on November 10.

According to a report by News18, Baig had alleged links to the Indian Mujahideen network, which had gained notoriety for their bombings across key Indian cities like Jaipur, Varanasi and Ahmedabad between 2007 and 2013. Baig completed his B.Tech from Al-Falah University in Faridabad in 2007.

Baig’s name was linked to the university in the earlier probes during the investigations of the Ahmedabad attacks. Now, his name resurfaces as the police crack down on Al Falah University following the Red Fort Blast.

Who Is Mirza Shadab Baig?

A resident of Baridi Calganj village, Azamgarh, Baig lived in the Raja Ka Qila locality. Baig failed Class 9 and changed subjects within his section, later studying up to Class 11 with the revised combination.

Baig completed his Class 12 from the Children School located near Azamgarh railway station with a PCM combination. Subsequently, he went on to study B.Tech in Electronics Instrumentation from Al-Falah University in 2007. It was here that his alleged radicalisation took place and he drifted away to the extremities.

Baig is accused of carrying out five blasts across the country and has been absconding for nearly two decades.

How Is Baig Linked To Delhi Blasts?

In another report by Dainik Bhaskar, citing intelligence reports, Baig assisted in the radicalisation of youths like Dr Muzammil Shakeel during his time in the university.

“Baig’s involvement in the Delhi bombings cannot be ruled out. There could be a connection between the 2007 and 2008 bombings with the recent blasts at Red Fort,” said a senior police officer, quoted Dainik Bhaskar.
