Delhi BMW Crash: Delhi Police have arrested 38-year-old Gaganpreet Kaur, the woman accused of driving a BMW that fatally hit a motorcycle near Delhi Cantonment Metro station on Sunday afternoon. The collision killed Navjot Singh (52), a Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and left his wife Sandeep Kaur with serious injuries.
The accident took place around 1:30 PM on September 14 on Ring Road near Dhaula Kuan, when the couple were returning from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara. The luxury car allegedly rammed into the motorcycle from behind, throwing both riders on the road. Singh was declared brought dead at Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, while his wife is under treatment.
Delhi BMW Crash Accused Arrested
Police confirmed that Kaur, a resident of Gurugram, was arrested on Monday after the victim’s wife filed a complaint. She was produced in court and remanded to two days’ judicial custody. Her lawyer, while moving a bail application, argued for her release, but the victim’s counsel said they would strongly oppose the plea when it comes up for hearing.
Delhi BMW Crash: Medical Check-Ups And CCTV Footage Under Investigation
South West Delhi Additional DCP Abhimanyu Poswal said that Kaur will undergo a medical check-up and her blood sample report is awaited to confirm if she was driving under the influence. CCTV footage is also being examined to check if the vehicle was overspeeding.
Kaur told investigators that she was travelling with her husband, two children (aged six and four) and their maid when the accident occurred. Her husband also suffered head injuries and is currently admitted to hospital.
Delhi BMW Crash: Questions Over Delay in Medical Aid
One of the most contentious points in the case is why the injured victims were taken to Nulife Hospital, GTB Nagar, nearly 20 km away, instead of a nearby hospital with emergency facilities.
According to police, Kaur said she was in panic and chose Nulife Hospital because her children had been treated there during the COVID-19 pandemic, making her familiar with the facility. She admitted that she did not think much before asking the taxi driver present at the spot to drive towards GTB Nagar.
However, the victim’s wife, Sandeep Kaur, stated in her FIR that she repeatedly pleaded with the accused to take her husband to the nearest hospital, but her requests were ignored. Their son Navnoor Singh also told reporters that his father might have survived if immediate treatment was given at a closer facility.
Navjot Singh’s cousin Shailendra raised similar concerns, questioning the logic behind delaying emergency care. “In such cases, the nearest hospital with emergency support should be the first choice. If they did not take him there, then what was the reason?” he said.
Delhi BMW Crash: Eyewitness Account
Police have also recorded the statement of Gulfam, the driver of a Porter van who stopped at the scene. He said that the public helped move the injured couple into a vehicle and later a woman directed him to drive them to hospital.
Doctors at Nulife Hospital confirmed that Singh was brought dead, while his wife was stable but later shifted to another hospital on her request. Two other patients, including Kaur, were also treated for injuries at the same facility.

Legal Proceedings
Representing the victim’s family, advocate Ishan Dewan criticised the accused’s decision-making after the crash, describing it as an “episode of hours” rather than a sudden accident. He said, “The decision not to take the victim to a hospital a minute away but instead to a facility far away shows their state of mind. This must be properly presented in court.”
He further added that the victim’s wife’s statement is crucial in the case. Dewan confirmed that the court allowed only judicial custody for two days, while the defence has sought bail. He assured that the family will strongly oppose bail in court.
