Five people including four Air India staffers suspected of being involved in human trafficking were nabbed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Wednesday. The five accused were held by the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) and then handed over to Delhi Police for interrogation and further legal action.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO), CISF stated that surveillance and intelligence staff of CISF at IGI Airport noticed suspicious activities of a passenger who was sitting in the check-in area near departure gate number 5 at about 1:15 pm on December 27.
After some interrogation, the passenger was later identified as Diljot Singh, an Indian citizen, who was travelling from Delhi to Birmingham by Air India flight, the PRO stated.
"Despite a thorough examination of his baggage yielding no suspicious items, Singh's failure to board the flight raised concerns. On the query as to why he did not board the flight, he did not reply satisfactorily," the PRO said as quoted by ANI.

The PRO said that they tracked his earlier movements through CCTV footage because they had strong suspicion. They found out from electronic surveillance and a query from the passenger that he went to the F-11 check-in counter for his checking formalities and then to immigration, where he was stopped by immigration officials for having doubtful travel documents and told to bring the concerned airline staff with him to clear the doubts.
The PRO said that they checked the CCTV footage again and saw that the passenger did not go to the check-in counter or return to the immigration counter.
"Later, on inquiry, it was learned that his check-in formalities were done at the crew counter F-11 by Air India staff, Rohan Verma, CSA, on the basis of wrong documents. It was learned that the said passenger was travelling on a Seamen letter (authorised to work on the ship only), but Air India staff completed his check-in formalities manually as BRP (Biometric Residence Permits, UK)."

Verma confessed that he checked in the passenger and two more passengers with forged documents, as his colleague, Mohammed Jahangir-CSA, AISATS, told him to do and he got Rs 80,000 for it. Jahangir confessed that he told his colleague to do the check-in forms of the passengers with forged documents because one Rakesh, who lives in Mahipalpur, offered him Rs 40,000 per passenger.
The Senior Manager of Vigilance said the officers of CISF and AISATS about the matter. Later, two other AISATS staff, Yash and Akshay Narang, also confessed that they were part of the case.
The PRO said that they gave all the involved staff and the passenger to Delhi Police for more legal action on the matter. The PRO said that they registered a FIR against all of them after they arrested them.
