Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: In a major update for the commuters, the much-awaited Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is in the final stages and is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the first week of April. While providing details, the officials stated that the project has already entered its trial phase across sections. While the exact date of inauguration has not been announced yet, the expressway is likely to begin operation in the upcoming weeks. The expressway will significantly boost the regional connectivity by linking the two key cities.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Details
- The expressway spans a total length of 210 kilometres
- It is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 13,000 crore
- The six-lane expressway will begin at Akshardham temple in Delhi and will connect to Dehradun via Saharanpur
- It is likely to reduce the travel time between the two cities from around six hours to just two and a half hours

- The expressway is also set to reduce the travel congestion in both the cities
- Along with improving connectivity, it will also boost the financial activities in multiple regions
- The officials stated that a three-lane tunnel is constructed near Datkali Temple at an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore
- The three-lane tunnel is 340 meters long, 11 meters in width, and its height is 7 meters
- The expressway has six animal underpasses and two separate underpasses for the elephants
- Apart from this, it also has 76 kilometers of service roads and 16 entry and exit gates
- The officials also informed that five railway overbridges have also been constructed along the expressway
- Once operational, the expressway will also benefit the residents of Saharanpur, Moradabad, and the western parts of Uttar Pradesh
The travel time between Delhi and Dehradun will significantly reduce, providing a boost to the financial activities and employment generation.
