Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: The upcoming Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, scheduled to open in January 2025, is expected to revolutionise travel between the two cities. Currently, the journey takes about 6.5 hours, but upon completion, it will be reduced to just 2.5 hours.
Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore, this 212-kilometre six-lane expressway will feature 12 way-side amenities for passengers. The project, funded by the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways, spans Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and includes several enhancements aimed at improving the travel experience.

Connects Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The expressway is divided into four sections, beginning at the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME) near Akshardham. It will pass through key areas including Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, and Khekra in Mandola, before reaching Dehradun in Uttarakhand. A significant feature of the project is a 340-metre-long three-lane tunnel being constructed at Datkali in Dehradun, with a budget of Rs 1,995 crore.
Underpasses
Special provisions have been incorporated along the expressway to benefit both commuters and wildlife. A 12-kilometre elevated road will be built from Ganeshpur to Dehradun, alongside six animal underpasses, two dedicated elephant underpasses, two major bridges and 13 minor bridges. In total, the expressway will include 113 vehicular underpasses, 62 bus shelters and various other structures to facilitate smooth traffic flow and enhance safety.
76-km Service Road And 29-km Elevated Road To Be Constructed
Additionally, a 76-kilometre service road and a 29-kilometre elevated road will be constructed, along with 16 entry and exit points along the expressway. These features are designed to alleviate congestion and improve overall safety for all users.

Connects Haridwar
The new national highway will also connect to Haridwar via a 51-kilometre six-lane Greenfield road, which is being developed at a cost of Rs 2,095 crore.
During a site visit in June, Harsh Malhotra, the Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport, expressed confidence in the project's progress. He stated that the expressway would help decongest the Gandhi Nagar area in East Delhi and reduce traffic on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
