Delhi Dry Days In February: Liquor stores and other places that serve alcohol in the city have been ordered to close by the Delhi government from February 3 to February 5, the day of the election, and on February 8, the day the results are announced.

The Delhi excise commissioner recently announced in the gazette that "dry days" under the Excise Rules-2010 would apply to a number of excise licenses on the day of the 70-member Delhi Assembly election and the day of the count.

“It is ordered that dry days shall be observed (during 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for conclusion of the poll) from 6 pm of February 3 to 6 pm of February 5, and again on February 8 being the counting day on account of Assembly polls. During the dry days, no liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and establishments selling or serving liquor, will be permitted to sell or serve liquor to anyone whosoever," said the notification.

It further stated that non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants, and other establishments should not be allowed to offer alcohol, even if they have been granted different types of permits for the possession and distribution of alcoholic beverages.

Delhi is getting ready for the 70-member Delhi Assembly election, which is planned to go in a single phase on February 5 and have the vote counted on February 8.

Meanwhile, Brinda Karat, the leader of the CPI-M, criticises the BJP's "Sankalp Patra," arguing that it ought to be renamed "Jumla Patra" part 2. She draws attention to the privatisation and growing fees of education in BJP-ruled regions and queries the number of states where the BJP has declared education free from kindergarten through tertiary education.
