As the Election Commission (EC) sounds poll bugle, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force in Delhi. The poll body has released a notification which requires candidates to follow certain guidelines while campaigning. This time, a candidate will not be allowed to spend beyond Rs 40 lakh. Earlier, this amount was Rs 28 lakh. 

Meanwhile, after the announcement of the assembly election, Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer RLS Waz held a meeting with political parties on Wednesday to discuss the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and election expenditure monitoring measures.

He stated that ensuring free and fair elections was essential. Representatives from the Aam Aadmi Party, BJP, Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party, Communist Party of India and National People's Party attended the meeting. The CEO mentioned that with the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect and it should be strictly followed to ensure fair and independent elections.

Waz informed the representatives about the guidelines issued by the Election Commission to prevent activities that disrupt political campaigns, ethical practices and the election process. Political parties were urged to maintain transparency in election expenditure and submit expenditure details within the stipulated timeline. 

EC Gets 25 Complaints On First Day

The announcement of the Delhi assembly elections took place on Tuesday and within a day, the Election Commission received 25 complaints regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct. Out of these, 19 were found to be valid.

Income Tax Department Tightens Control On Black Money

To curb the use of black money in the elections, the Income Tax Department has taken strong measures. The Delhi Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation) has set up several arrangements to monitor the movement of potential, suspicious, unaccounted cash, bullion or precious goods that may be used for election-related purposes in the National Capital Region of Delhi during the Model Code of Conduct period.

Among other measures, the Directorate has opened a 24/7 control room at the Civic Centre and issued a toll-free number where anyone can report suspicious movement or distribution of cash, bullion or precious metals in connection with the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025.

The department stated that residents can contact the Income Tax Department with any information related to the movement of such materials through the following contact details: the control room at Room No. 17, Ground Floor, C Block, Civic Centre, and the toll-free number 1800111309, along with the landline numbers 011-23210293/294/325/326 and mobile number 9868502260. This control room will remain operational throughout the duration of the Model Code of Conduct.
