After the glass shards were found spread on the Kanwar Yatra route in Delhi's Dilshad Garden, the Delhi Police swung into action and registered an FIR on Sunday. The matter came to light after BJP MLA Kapil Mishra raised the issue on X on Saturday.

Glass pieces were found scattered on roads in Shahdara's Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) and Jhilmil Colony areas, both located along the Kanwar Yatra route, officials said on Sunday.

In a post on X, Mishra said, "In Delhi's Shahdara, some mischievous elements scattered glass pieces along the Kanwar Yatra route for nearly a kilometer. PWD and municipal workers are cleaning the route."

He added, "Local MLA Sanjay Goyal ji is present there. CM Rekha Gupta has personally taken cognizance of the incident." Delhi LG VK Saxena also took cognisance of the incident and directed the Delhi Police to take corrective measures. He said, "It came to notice yesternight that large amount of shrads of broken glass had been strewn on a stretch of about one km road in Dilshad Garden, on the route of Kaanwar Yatris, who walk barefoot."

"Instructed Police to reach the spot & directed PWD to immediately take corrective measures to clean the road. The road was cleaned within 2 hours by PWD. Police has filed an FIR. Crime branch is investigating the matter", he added. 

What police found so far?

Providing details about the actions taken so far, Delhi Police said that an e-rickshaw was carrying 19 glasses to Seelampur, which shattered on the way. 

The Delhi Police said, "A case was registered on July 12 based on a complaint by a junior engineer (JE) of the Public Works Department (PWD). The e-rickshaw, which was carrying a total of 19 glasses from Shalimar Garden, UP, to Seelampur, has been identified. The glasses were broken during the journey to the destination. The driver has been identified as Kusum Pal. He has been detained for further questioning."

The investigation so far has not revealed any deliberate scattering of glass pieces by mischievous elements as claimed by BJP MLA Mishra.

Meanwhile, the police have also ramped up security on the Kanwar route. Security personnel are monitoring the area closely to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure smooth passage for the Kanwariyas.
