Delhi Yamuna Cruise Service: The Delhi government is gearing up to launch the Yamuna cruise project by the last week of November or early December, as a part of a broader initiative to revive the river and enhance recreational activities along its banks.

Speaking to news agency PTI, a senior official said that the section between the Wazirabad barrage (Sonia Vihar) and Jagatpur (near the Shani temple) has been selected for the cruise service due to its relatively better water quality.

Key Highlights Of Delhi’s First Yamuna Cruise Service

- The Yamuna cruise service, which will operate between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, is expected to become a major tourist attraction in the national capital.

- The one-hour Yamuna river cruise service will offer a 5-kilometre round trip, PTI reported.

- According to officials, initially, one boat will be deployed with a capacity to carry 90 passengers at a time. Further, snacks will be provided on board to enhance tourists’ experience.

- With the upcoming Yamuna cruise service, passengers will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the Yamuna Ghats and scenic landscapes along the riverbank.

- As the launch of the Yamuna cruise service nears, the Delhi government’s tourism department is actively involved in developing onshore infrastructure, including waiting areas, ticket counters and passenger service facilities.

- Additionally, the Delhi government is also planning to introduce live performances showcasing Delhi’s traditional art and music as part of the cruise experience, Hindustan Times reported.

- Ticket prices for the Yamuna cruise service will be finalised after receiving approval from Tourism Minister and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the report added. An official told PTI that affordability and accessibility are key priorities of the project.

- Earlier this year, five agencies, including the Inland Waterways Authority of India, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation, and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, came together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
