Big changes may be coming for Delhi residents as the government hints at rolling back user charges and launching a General Amnesty Scheme for house tax. This move aims to ease the financial burden on citizens and improve municipal governance.

According to Delhi BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva, the current administration referred to as a "triple engine" government is taking steps to correct past misgovernance by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), according to jagran.com.

Sachdeva highlighted that user charges were imposed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) without consulting the public. However, in a significant shift, he announced, “There will be no user charges in Delhi. We are going to roll it back.” Before this announcement, meetings were held with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), where citizens voiced their concerns. Based on this feedback, the BJP has urged the Delhi Mayor to take concrete steps to improve civic services.

The BJP leadership plans to work closely with RWAs to find practical solutions for managing solid waste in the city. Sachdeva said that public opinion will play a crucial role in shaping future policies. One key issue raised was the sharp increase in house tax bills, including demands for payments going back as far as 2004.

To address these concerns, the government is introducing a General Amnesty Scheme, which will provide relief to those willing to clear their pending house tax dues. Residents who take advantage of this scheme will not only get financial relief but also receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MCD, confirming that no outstanding payments remain.

Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh also confirmed that discussions were held with RWAs and the BJP’s state leadership to eliminate user charges. “People are ready to pay, but they expect proper services in return. We’ve spoken to officials and are bringing in a private bill to abolish user charges,” he said.
