Delhi: In a major move, the Delhi government is gearing up to introduce the capital’s first cooperative ride-hailing service, providing an alternative to existing corporate cab aggregators. Unlike existing services, this new service will offer commuters a more affordable and surge-free alternative, while the drivers will get control over fares and earnings.
Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Delhi Citizen Cooperative Bank, Delhi’s Cooperative Minister Ravinder Indraj stated that the new ride-hailing service is a part of the government’s efforts to “revitalise the cooperative movement in the city with new direction and energy,” Times of India reported.
Details About Delhi’s New Ride-Hailing Service
- Inspired by the Sahkar Taxi initiative being developed in Maharashtra and other states, Delhi’s new ride-hailing service will empower drivers with ownership of the platform, making them key stakeholders.
- This means that the driver will have 100 per cent of their earnings, with no commission deducted by the platform.
- According to the report, the cooperative service will run through a dedicated app, connecting commuters directly with the drivers.
- Unlike the corporate cab aggregators, the Delhi cooperative will offer fair, fixed fare slabs with no algorithmic-driven price surging, ensuring commuters receive fair and predictable rates.
Update On Delhi’s New Cooperative Ride-Hailing Service

- The officials are already engaged in creating a feasibility report and framework, while the government is assisting in securing necessary regulatory approvals.
- “The main objective is to uplift taxi drivers by improving their income, working conditions and overall quality of life. By making drivers active members and stakeholders, the government hopes to build a sustainable model that benefits drivers and consumers alike,” TOI quoted an official as saying.
