The Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to four co-owners of the coaching center where three IAS aspirants tragically lost their lives due to waterlogging in the basement in Old Rajendra Nagar. The court directed the accused to deposit Rs 5 lakh in the high court registry for the welfare of the families of the deceased.

On July 27 last year, heavy rainfall caused water from the street to flood the basement of the coaching center, which housed the library. At the time, 35 students were studying in the basement, and while most of them managed to escape, three students—two females and one male—were unable to get out due to the rapid rise in water levels, leading to their deaths.

Eyewitnesses reported that the water level rose so quickly that the students had no time to flee, resulting in their tragic demise.

The incident sparked widespread outrage, with many blaming the coaching center owners for violating safety norms. Following this, the Delhi High Court handed over the investigation to the CBI, which registered a case for culpable homicide. The CBI's chargesheet included six individuals, including the owner of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, as accused.

Earlier, the High Court had rejected the accused's bail plea and criticised the officers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for their failure to address the illegal use of the basement.
