The Delhi Police have arrested a man for disrupting virtual court proceedings by appearing in his undergarments while smoking, an official said on Saturday.
The accused, Mohd Imran, is an active history-sheeter with over 50 previous cases of robbery, snatching, and other offences registered across Delhi. He virtually attended the court proceedings on September 16 and 17.
On September 22, a case was registered following a complaint by the Tis Hazari Courts' record keeper, Anshul Singhal.
Speaking about the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia said, "It was alleged that on September 16 and 17, an unknown individual joined the court's video conferencing sessions using the name AkibAkhlak, appearing in his undergarments while smoking and consuming alcohol."
In his statement, DCP Santhia said that despite repeated instructions to leave, Imran allegedly continued to be in the virtual hearing, causing disruption. The police then launched an investigation into the matter.

How did he enter the video conferencing?
According to the police, Imran is a school dropout but has technical skills as a former air-conditioner mechanic. However, he did not need any hacking skills for the court barge-in.
Imran told the police the police during the interrogation that he learnt about the WebEx video conferencing platform from an acquaintance and using it, he joined the proceedings out of curiosity.
He allegedly acknowledged that he attended sessions in his undergarments, smoked cigarettes, and consumed alcohol during the virtual hearings. Police recovered a mobile phone, a SIM card, and a router used by the accused in committing the offence.
