Delhi News: In a shocking incident, a senior journalist working for an English news channel was allegedly followed and attacked by two men on a scooter while she was driving from her office in Noida’s Sector-129 to her residence in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj early Friday.
According to a report by NDTV, the incident took place around 12:45 AM, when the journalist, driving her Ford Figo on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, noticed two men on a scooter closely following her.
Journalist Harassed and Attacked While Driving Home
At first, what seemed like a coincidence turned into a terrifying ordeal when the two men blocked her path and attempted to force her to stop, escalating into a dangerous chase and attack. “They tried to stop me. Initially, I ignored them, but I later noticed they were attempting to block my car. The men gestured for me to stop, but I continued driving,” NDTV quoted journalist as saying.
Realising the danger, she grabbed her phone to record the men in an attempt to scare them off. The tension escalated when the scooter pulled up closer, and the pillion rider got off, pounding on her car’s front window and trying to force the door open.
“I sped my car and somehow managed to reach the DND Flyway. However, the two men kept following me,” the journalist said.
As the chase escalated, one of the men used a wooden stick to break the car’s rear windscreen and left rear window. However, she kept driving and called her colleagues, who told her not to stop under any circumstances.
Timely Help From Taxi Drivers Helps Journalist Escape
The terrifying chase continued until she reached the Ashram area, where the journalist was finally able to call the police and share her live location. A group of taxi drivers near Lajpat Nagar saw her struggling and immediately came to help.
“I asked them to help me, and they told me to park my car to the side. I stopped my car at Gupta Market in Lajpat Nagar, and the two men on the scooty were gone,” she added. The drivers stayed until the police arrived.
The police arrived at the scene and escorted her to the Sunlight Colony Police Station, where a formal FIR was registered.
Noida and Delhi Police launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from both cities to identify the two men and deployed teams to trace the scooter based on the footage and the journalist’s account. Soon after, the two men, identified as Deepak and Shubham, were arrested by the police.
