Kalkaji Temple Murder: A sewadaar of the Kalkaji temple was murdered over dispute on 'chunni prasad', said Delhi police on Saturday. The victim, 35-year-old Yogendra Singh, was the sewadaar in Kalkaji Temple for the last 14-15 years. One of accused was arrested. 

Accused, a group of youth, who came to visit Kalkaji temple attacked a sevadaar with sticks and killed him. The horrific incident caught on CCTV.

Police arrested an accused named Atul Pandey. The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that on Friday some youth had come to visit the temple. "After the darshan, they asked for 'chunni prasad' from sewadaar Yogendra Singh. The sevadaar asked them to stand in a queue. Both of them got into an argument over this. Accused Atul along with his friends attacked Yogendra with sticks," he added.

Yogendra was admitted to the trauma center. There the doctors declared him dead.

Fight Breaks Out On Friday Night

"A PCR call was received by the police around 9:30 pm yesterday. The police team rushed immediately to the scene," said the police official.

"During the preliminary enquiry, it came to notice that the accused persons came to the Kalkaji mandir for darshan. After the darshan, they demanded 'chunni prasad' from the victim, and an argument broke out between them. The accused physically assaulted the victim with sticks and fist blows. The victim was immediately taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre," he added.

A case has been registered u/s 103(1)/ 3(5) of BNS. One of the accused, Atul Pandey, aged 30 years, resident of Dakshinpuri, was apprehended by the local public at the spot and handed over to the police.

Further investigation was underway. The remaining accused are being identified, and efforts are being made to apprehend them, police said.
