The conflict between Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has escalated concerning Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's blood sugar levels. While AAP leader Atishi claimed that Kejriwal's blood sugar levels had dangerously fallen below 50 mg/dL on multiple occasions in custody, Delhi LG suggested that it may be due to non-consumption of the prescribed diet by Delhi CM in jail.

In a letter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Saxena referenced a report from the prison Superintendent alleging that Kejriwal may be deliberately avoiding his prescribed medical diet and medications, including insulin. The letter noted instances of ‘willful low-calorie intake by the Chief Minister’, despite sufficient home-cooked food being provided to him.

The LG's office highlighted discrepancies between glucometer test readings and continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) data, suggesting insufficient calorie intake might be affecting Kejriwal’s health.

“The diet monitoring chart indicates that between June 6, 2024, and July 13, 2024, the CM had not fully consumed the prescribed diet for all three meals of the day. The report also suggests a loss of weight (now 61.5 kg, which earlier was 63.5 kg on the date of surrender on June 20, 2024). Prima facie, it appears to be due to less calorie intake,” said the letter.

"The LG has expressed concern over the non-consumption of prescribed medical diets and medications by Chief Minister Kejriwal. He has also asked that reasons thereof may be ascertained from him since deviations from the same could also have medical and legal ramifications," it added.

AAP Hits Back

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly refuted the Lt Governor's allegations. AAP leader Atishi claimed that Kejriwal’s blood sugar levels have fallen below 50 mg/dL on multiple occasions, posing serious health risks such as coma or stroke.

"There is a conspiracy to kill Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. BJP is hatching this conspiracy. The Chief Minister's sugar level has come below 50 more than 8 times. In such a situation, CM Kejriwal can go into a coma and in such a situation, there is also a risk of brain stroke," Atishi claimed.

Sanjay Singh, another AAP leader, criticised the LG's letter, questioning its accuracy and expressing concern over the potential dangers of such misinformation.

"What kind of joke are you making, LG Sir? Would a man reduce his sugar levels at night? This is very dangerous. LG Sir, if you do not know about the disease, then you should not write such a letter. God forbid such a time ever comes to you," Sanjay Singh posted on X.

Echoing similar concerns, party leader and Health minister Saurabh Bhardwaj dismissed the LG's concerns and questioned his expertise on the matter.
