Jagran Correspondent, New Delhi: After a fire at the Flourish Stay Hotel in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar area claimed 21 lives, the Delhi Police arrested the hotel's co-owner, Lavekesh Bajaj. He is likely to be produced in court today.

During interrogation, Bajaj revealed that the entire management was handled by the hotel manager, Jai Mishra, and alleged that the hotel's licenses and other operating documents were also under Mishra's name.

Mishra is currently absconding, and several police teams are conducting raids to track him down.

Who Is Jai Mishra?

Lavekesh Bajaj purchased the building in 2022 and converted it into the Flourish Stay Hotel, which was officially registered under a bed-and-breakfast license, news agency PTI reported.

During police interrogation, Bajaj revealed that Mishra is the sole owner of the hotel and that the entire management had been handled by Mishra since the hotel's inception. He further alleged that the operating licenses were also under Mishra’s name.

According to a report by Jagran.com, citing sources, Mishra allegedly violated building regulations by increasing the number of rooms within the hotel, ignoring safety standards.

This severe negligence proved tragic, given the hotel's location in a narrow, alleyway area, ultimately claiming the lives of 21 people, including 11 foreign nationals.

Mishra is currently absconding, and several police teams are currently analysing his call detail records and raiding possible hideouts to track him down.

Malviya Nagar Fire

On Wednesday, at least 21 people, mostly foreigners, lost their lives while many others sustained severe burn injuries after a massive fire engulfed a five-storey building in Hauz Rani, a congested locality in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar. The authorities admitted 49 people to a nearby hospital, where eight of them were discharged after treatment.

As per the report, the hotel had permission for only six rooms but was operating over 20 rooms, including those in the basement.
