Delhi: A 32-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by fellow commuters while trying to board a train at Shahdara railway station in east Delhi on Saturday. The incident occurred during a scuffle as a large crowd was attempting to board the Yoga Express.

The victim has been identified as Pankaj Dhama, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

What Happened At Shahdara Railway Station?

According to news agency PTI, the incident took place on Platform No. 3 of Shahdara railway station, where a heated argument broke out among passengers during the rush to board the train. Upon receiving information about the scuffle, the Old Delhi Railway Station police station immediately dispatched an investigating officer to the spot.

Preliminary investigation revealed that during the altercation, Dhama was allegedly assaulted with punches and kicks by multiple co-passengers. Officials stated that he was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Case Registered, Probe On

A senior police officer stated that a medico-legal case has been registered, with legal proceedings initiated under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police teams are currently working to identify and trace the individuals involved in the assault. As part of the investigation, investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the railway station and recording statements from eyewitnesses.

Video Captures The Fatal Incident

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing a group of young men assaulting Pankaj Dhama. The video shows a policeman arriving at the scene shortly after, actively fending off the attackers in a desperate attempt to save Dhama.

Taking advantage of the chaos, the accused then hurriedly boarded a train and fled the scene. Police teams are currently working to identify and trace the individuals involved in the assault.
