Jagran Correspondent | South Delhi: In the latest update in the Delhi maid murder case, the accused, identified as Dr Manish Gupta, confessed to his crime. The dermatologist has been remanded to custody for two days.

The doctor murdered his house help, Meena (45), at his residence in Mount Kailash. Judicial Magistrate Anurag Chhabra heard and granted the Delhi Police's application seeking two days' custody of the accused. According to sources, the police are trying to determine whether there was an argument before the murder and whether other family members were present in the house at the time.

Was Meena Practising Black Magic

Locals and domestic helpers in the neighborhood claimed screams were heard from the rooftop shortly before the incident. The police said that Kumar killed Meena by hitting her with a cricket bat and stabbing her multiple times. The accused doctor suspected her of practicing black magic and held her responsible for the constant family feuds.

The police sought custody of the accused, saying they needed to investigate whether anyone else was involved and to gather new information in the case. Opposing this request, the defense lawyer told the court that the accused had been in police custody for the past 24 hours.

What Did The Investigation Reveal 

During the interrogation, he repeatedly stated he wanted to hang himself. Gupta was suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) for a long time and was undergoing treatment for the same. Police officers are keeping a close watch on him due to his mental condition. His behavior and statements during interrogation are also being analysed.

After questioning the accused, it was revealed that the deceased, Meena, had been working at the accused's home for approximately 15 years. For the past two to three years, the accused had been trying to remove Meena from her job as a domestic help. However, his wife opposed his decision and supported Meena. Police said that the dermatologist felt he was not getting enough respect within his own family after repeatedly asking that Haldar be dismissed. An officer, who also requested anonymity, said Gupta's wife and son informed investigators that he had been receiving treatment for mental health problems and had been taking antidepressants for the last 10 years, HT reported.
