Jagran Correspondent, New Delhi: A 70-year-old woman was killed after being caught in a violent chain collision involving a Mercedes and a WagonR in Delhi’s Narela. The Mercedes, allegedly driven by the son of a Sonipat police sub-inspector, rammed the WagonR head-on, sending both vehicles spinning into a nearby cargo tempo.
The elderly woman, identified as Urmila, was caught between the vehicles and died on the spot. The husband and wife travelling in the WagonR were injured, while the Mercedes driver survived after the car’s airbags deployed. Police suspect the accused was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Shubham Was Unemployed, Had Purchased Car From Friend
As per police, Sub-Inspector Prahlad Sharma's 21-year-old son, Shubham, was returning home from a party at around 8 am in his Mercedes-Benz E 220d when the accident occurred. He had purchased the Mercedes from a friend, but the papers had not been transferred yet. The police further added that Shubham, an MA graduate, is unemployed.
Bottles Of Liquor, Beer Found In Car
According to eyewitnesses, the accused's car had a bottle of liquor and beer in its cup holder. Police said that a blood sample has been taken and sent to a lab to determine whether Shubham was intoxicated.
