Delhi Metro Update: Passengers using the Delhi Metro should brace for potential delays from August 9 to August 16, 2026, as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that security checks at all metro stations will be intensified as part of enhanced security arrangements ahead of Independence Day.

The additional security screening will be conducted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). This may lead to longer queues at metro stations, especially during morning and evening peak travel hours.

DMRC Issues Advisory

In a security update advisory, the DMRC urged passengers to plan their travel in advance, allow extra time for their commute, and cooperate with security personnel during security checks.

"In view of the enhanced security arrangements ahead of Independence Day on 15th August 2026, the security checks for passengers will be further intensified by CISF across the Metro stations starting from 9th August 2026 (Sunday). This might result in long queues at some Metro stations, especially during peak hours till 16th August 2026 (Sunday). Therefore, passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly and allow for some additional time for their commute during these days. Passengers are requested to cooperate with the security personnel during security checks," the DMRC said.

Delhi Police Hold Meeting Ahead Of Independence Day

Earlier on Thursday, the DCP Central Delhi team held a meeting with stakeholders to strengthen security arrangements ahead of Independence Day 2026. Senior officials, including the Special CP (Law & Order) Zone-I, Joint CP (Central Range), and DCP Central District, attended the meeting and emphasised heightened vigilance, timely sharing of information, and active public participation, The Economic Times reported.

"Team of @DCPCentralDelhi organised a coordination meeting with members of the Eyes & Ears Scheme, Prahari volunteers, car dealers, cyber café owners, SIM card dealers, and hotel & guest house owners to enhance coordination with community stakeholders and strengthen security arrangements ahead of Independence Day-2026," DCP Central Delhi said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
