A man named Harish, aged 49, committed suicide by jumping from an elevated platform at Maharaja Surajmal metro station in west Delhi on Thursday. According to news agency PTI, the man is a resident of Rohini Sector 7. He worked with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL). 

In a video of the incident doing the rounds on social media, the man can be seen sitting on the parapet of the metro station after he managed to climb over the railings. Some security personnel are also seen holding a blanket to save him. When a security guard tries to grab the man, he jumps.

According to news agency PTI, police informed them that the man was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where he was declared dead. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

Harish is survived by his wife and two children. His family has been informed about the incident, the officer said.

Last month, a woman died after jumping off an elevated platform at the Uttam Nagar West Metro Station onto the road below on Thursday, reports news agency PTI, quoting police. The victim was then taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

According to PTI, the police said that they were working to  identify the woman, who is believed to be in her mid-40s.

In another incident last week, the Red Line of the Delhi Metro was suspended after a passenger jumped at the Kashmere Gate station. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), a passenger was reported on the tracks, leading to a pause in operations between the Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) station in Ghaziabad and the Rithala station in the capital city.
