  2. Total additional trips on network now reach 40.
  3. Decision follows GRAP-II due to 'very poor' air quality.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday announced that it would run 20 more trips from Tuesday on weekdays, increasing the total number of additional trips on its network by 40. The announcement came hours after the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) imposed stage two measures in Delhi-NCR under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) as air quality slipped into the 'very poor' category.

"Service Update: In the wake of implementation of GRAP-II in the capital, Delhi Metro will be running 20 more trips from tomorrow on weekdays, thereby increasing the total number of additional trips on its network by 40," the DMRC said in an X post.

AQI Rises To 'Very Poor' Category In Delhi

Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) increased to 324 ('Very Poor' Category) on Monday due to unfavorable meteorological conditions, prompting authorities to impose restrictions in the national capital.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology forecast that Delhi's overall air quality is likely to remain in the 'Very Poor' category in the coming days.

"The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi, which was observed 117 ('Moderate' Category) on 31.10.2026, has exhibited a sharp rise with AQI of 261 ('Poor' Category) on 01.11.2026 and has further increased to 324 ('Very Poor' Category) on 02.11.2026 owing to unfavorable meteorological conditions," the CAQM said in a statement.

GRAP is a set of emergency measures that kick in to prevent further deterioration of air quality once it reaches a certain threshold. The first stage, GRAP-1, kicks in when the AQI is between 201 and 300; the second stage, GRAP-2, is invoked when the AQI is between 301 and 400; GRAP-3 kicks in between 401 and 500; and GRAP-4 is invoked when the AQI is more than 450. With GRAP-2 restrictions in place, authorities will intensify measures to curb dust pollution and promote public transport.
