- Widespread waterlogging and commuter inconvenience reported across city.
Delhi Rains: Delhi and its nearby cities witnessed massive rainfall on Friday throughout the day, leading to waterlogging at several key sites. While the fresh rain provided relief from the heat and humidity, it caused inconveniences to the commuters. The continuous intense rainfall in the first week of August has already broken the 15-year-old record, with more downpours expected in the coming days.
Rain Due To Multiple Factors
As per the weather experts, the capital city on Friday received massive rainfall due to the rare combination of four weather systems. The experts, while providing details, stated that the monsoon trough is passing over the region, adding that a low-pressure area has formed over southwestern Uttar Pradesh.
Along with these factors, the arrival of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and the activeness of a western disturbance affecting northwestern regions of the country led to the intense rain in Delhi. The combination of these weather systems created conditions that led to continuous rain throughout the day.

The reports suggest that Delhi has already received 127 mm of rainfall in the first seven days of August, highest in the first week of the month since 2011. As per the data of the India Meteorological Department, the first week of August in 2015 was the driest during this period, when only seven mm of rainfall was recorded.
The data from 2011 to 2026 shows that the capital city receives an average of 42 mm of rainfall in the first week of August. However, the residents have witnessed almost triple the rainfall in the same duration this year, leading to inconveniences.
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Meteorology and Climate Change at Skymet Weather, explained that weather systems keep changing. He further stated that multiple systems become active simultaneously on some occasions, resulting in significant rainfall. The residents are likely to witness more rain at least till August 10, the weather department informed.
