Delhi-NCR Air Pollution: Delhi continue to breathe toxic air as the air quality in the national capital continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category on Tuesday. A thick haze and lower visibility exist in many parts of the national capital. Currently, Delhi is recording air pollution levels seven to eight times above safe standards and keeping that in view all schools in the capital have been directed to suspend physical classes, except for classes 10 and 12, until November 10, the odd-even car system made a return in Delhi November 13 till 20 to tackle the severe air pollution.

Meanwhile, in Gurugram, schools from nursery to class five will remain suspended till further orders and in Faridabad schools will remain shut till November 12 for children from class one to five from Tuesday.

Today, the AQI readings in Anand Vihar measured 432, while RK Puram recorded 437, Punjabi Bagh registered 439, and New Moti Bagh showed a reading of 410.

According to the AQI monitor, the air quality in Gurugram improved to the poor category on Tuesday morning, with the CPCB reading showing 399 AQI in Sector-51 at 6 a.m.

The CPCB reading showed 384 AQI (very poor) in Noida Sector-62 at 6 am. However, the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate said on Sunday evening that schools will not be closed in the district as of now.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG), Vinai Kumar Saxena on Monday paid an inspection visit to the streets, taking stock of the pollution mitigating measures being undertaken by the various departments, agencies and civic bodies in the metropolis.

The Delhi government reintroduced the odd-even rule from November 13 to 20 given the concerns of deterioration in air quality. The odd-even scheme of the Delhi government is a traffic rationing measure under which vehicles with registration numbers ending with an odd digit will be allowed on roads on odd dates and those with an even digit on even dates.

There is a possibility that the wind speed will increase on November 7, 8 which is expected to reduce the level of pollution."As per the forecast, the wind speed will be 12km/hour tomorrow, 7th November and if the speed reaches 10 to 12 km/hour, then there is a possibility that the level of pollution accumulated here might disperse. Similarly, the wind speed will be 8-10 km/hour on 8th November," Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said.

Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) was invoked in the entire National Capital Region (NCR) to prevent further deterioration of air quality. The Air Quality Commission said that Stage IV has been implemented in addition to the restrictions placed under Stage I to III.

According to the 8-point action plan, a ban on entry of truck traffic into Delhi (except for trucks carrying essential commodities/ providing essential services and all LNG/ CNG/ electric trucks) has been implemented.
