As the Diwali festivities start with Dhanteras on Saturday, lakhs of people have started rushing on the main roads connecting areas outside Delhi-NCR, causing massive traffic congestion. The traffic situation worsened as it is also Saturday, a weekend
There was a long queue of vehicles at the Jewar toll plaza on the Yamuna Expressway, connecting Noida with Agra, as everyone seemed to be in a hurry to reach their homes during this festival.
Resultantly, the speed of the traffic started slowing down. Passersby said that the traffic situation started emerging on Saturday morning. A sudden influx of vehicles from the Greater Noida side created a traffic jam at the Jewar toll.
Queues began to form as the toll exceeded its capacity. Meanwhile, queues of vehicles were seen growing at all toll booths. Many people shared videos and photos of the traffic jam at the Jewar toll on the internet.

Meanwhile, heavy traffic was also witnessed on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Agra Expressway, among other key roads, where commuters were seen heading outside the national capital.
A massive traffic rush was also witnessed in the national capital, a scene that Delhi has been seeing for the last couple of days. On the Dhanteras evening, huge number of people were out for shopping, especially jewellery. A massive footfall was seen in the shops in places like Kotla Mubarakpur.

As Diwali festivities have started, the Delhi Police have also issued a traffic advisory in connection with the Festive Season Celebrations at Chandni Chowk & surrounding markets from October 18 to 21.
