The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will cut off the water and power supply to Signature View Apartments in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area from October 12.
The decision was taken after a meeting with all concerned authorities including the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the residents on Monday.
Signature View Apartments was declared structurally unsafe by IIT-Delhi in 2023. The decision to stop water and electricity supply is in compliance with Delhi High Court orders for the demolition and reconstruction.
According to the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), 220 families have already vacated the building. Many residents are currently in the process of relocating to rented accommodations.
“The High Court has made it clear that the safety of people cannot be compromised. We are bound to ensure that the complex is vacated before the disconnection of services. Notices have already been sent to residents,” said an MCD official, as per a Hindustan Times report.
Power disconnection will be carried out by the Tata Power-DDL by October 13. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) was given directions to shut off the water connections. Other service cut-offs will be coordinated by the DDA.
SHO of Mukherjee Nagar police station will be helping civic agencies to ensure law and order during this time.
