The main accused in the murder of Delhi Police constable Kiranpal was killed in an encounter with a joint police team in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar late Saturday, officials confirmed. The accused, identified as Raghav alias Rocky, succumbed to injuries sustained in retaliatory fire during the operation.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the police team received information about the prime accused’s location. A joint team from the Special Cell and Narcotics Cell, South East District, moved to intercept him near Surajkund Road. Police stated that Raghav opened fire at officers when asked to surrender, prompting a defensive response.
Injured in the exchange, he was taken to ESIC Hospital, Okhla, but succumbed to his injuries. Police also recovered a 0.32-bore pistol with live rounds from the accused. No police personnel were injured in the encounter, according to officials. Earlier that day, another suspect, Deepak, was arrested by the Crime Branch in connection with the case.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sanjay Kumar Sain confirmed that Rocky had attacked Constable Kiranpal during patrol duty. Constable Kiranpal was found unconscious with stab wounds near Sant Ravidas Marg, Govindpuri, on Saturday morning. He had been stationed at a police booth near Arya Samaj Mandir alongside two colleagues when he went missing.
Despite being rushed to Majidiya Hospital, he was declared dead. Investigations revealed that Kiranpal was fatally attacked while on duty, leading to the registration of a murder case and a manhunt by the police.
