I-Day Celebrations Preparations: The Delhi Police on Monday said it has suspended seven police personnel, including constables and head constables, deployed for the security of the Red Fort due to negligence in security. The development comes amid preparation for the upcoming Independence Day Celebration at the iconic Mughal monument.
Ahead of I-Day celebrations at the Red Fort, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurls the tricolour and addresses the nation, the Delhi Police started conducting daily drills as part of preparations for the program scheduled for August 15.
Officials Enter Red Fort And Plant Bomb As Part Of Drill
"A team of the Special Cell conducted a drill on Saturday in which they entered the Red Fort premises in civil dress with a dummy bomb. At that time, the policemen deployed for the security of the Red Fort could not trace the bomb, due to which they were suspended," News agency ANI said, quoting Delhi Police.
The failure to detect the bomb by the deployed police personnel drew stern action by the police authorities over negligence during a routine security drill at the Red Fort.
