Delhi LG VK Saxena on Friday expressed his concerns over the issue of rising pollution in the national capital. He called CM Arvind Kejriwal, and Environment Minister Gopal Rai for a meeting at Rag Niwas at 6 pm to discuss the issue.

Taking to the social media platform X (previously Twitter), LG wrote, “The situation arising out of air pollution in the City is extremely worrying. I have asked Hon'ble CM & Hon'ble Minister (Environment) for a meeting at Raj Niwas at 06:00 PM today, to take stock of the situation”.

He also urged the residents of the national capital to remain indoors owing to the AQI mark surpassing 800 at many places. “I appeal to the people to remain indoors as much as possible and to not expose themselves- especially children & elderly to hazardous ambient conditions wherein AQI has reportedly crossed 800 at places,” he said in another post.

Delhi has been reeling under acute pollution for the last few days. The AQI in many areas surpassed the 900 mark with a thick layer of smog shrouding the area.
Owing to the hazardous pollution, the Delhi government on Thursday announced a holiday in all government and private primary schools on Nov 3-4. “In light of the rising pollution levels, all govt and private primary schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next 2 days,” Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said in an X post.

Besides, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced additional trips to encourage more and more people to use public transport in Delhi-NCR. “In view of the implementation of the GRAP-III stage to combat pollution in Delhi, DMRC will be further adding 20 extra trips across its network starting tomorrow. From tomorrow, DMRC will be running a total of 60 additional trips as part of its measures taken under GRAP to encourage more and more people to use public transport in Delhi-NCR,” ANI reported quoting the rail corporation statement.
