Delhi News: Addressing the issue of rising air and water pollution in Delhi, Chief Minister Atishi, on Sunday, launched an attack on rival Bharatiya Janata Party, blaming it for the precarious situation emerging in the capital city. Admitting that not only the air but Yamuna pollution has also increased in the last few days, Atishi said that the main reason for this rise was the 'cheap politics' of the BJP.
While the newly-appointed Chief Minister lambasted Haryana for its negligence in cases of stubble burning, she praised AAP-ruled Punjab for its 'tireless' work to reduce the crop residue burning cases.
"... Not just air pollution, but pollution in Yamuna river is also increasing over the last few days... The main reason for the rise in Delhi's air and water pollution is BJP's cheap politics... The AAP government in Punjab has worked tirelessly for two years to reduce the incidents of stubble burning... Last year, stubble burning in Punjab was reduced to half," the Chief Minister said while addressing a press conference in Delhi.
Earlier today, Atishi visited Anand Vihar, which reported an Air Quality Index of 454 even before the start of winter, a warning sign for the upcoming days. Her address on the issue came as Delhi's average AQI clocks a mark of 250 falling in the 'poor' category as per CPCB classification.
"If we look at statistics from Haryana, farm fires have increased by 23%. Farm fires in UP have increased by 70%... BJP is doing cheap politics with the people of Delhi," she alleged.
She further blamed the buses from other states plying on the roads of Delhi for the air pollution in bus terminals like Anand Vihar.
"If we see the buses in Anand Vihar, which records the maximum AQI, Delhi's buses are all run on CNG or electricity. But if we see the buses coming from UP and Haryana, they run on Diesel. An important reason for the pollution seen in the Anand Vihar area is the thousands of diesel-run buses coming from UP... Why can't Haryana and UP governments introduce CNG and electric buses in their fleet?... In NCR there are 3800 brick kilns which contribute a lot to the pollution levels in Delhi," the Chief Minister was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
