The air quality in Delhi remained in the ''Very Poor'' category in most areas of the city with some places recording AQI above 350 on Tuesday morning. Delhi’s air quality deteriorated due to adverse weather conditions which trapped pollutants in the atmosphere. Meteorologists stated that wind speed is likely to drop further due to which there is no possibility of improvement in air quality for the next five to six days.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) stated that Delhi’s AQI had increased by three points on Monday compared to Sunday when AQI was 314. The air quality early warning system attributed the rise to the low wind speed, which reached below 10 km per hour on Monday.

According to the CPCB, the wind speed would reduce to four to five km per hour from Tuesday, leading to further deterioration of the air quality. The agency also stated that only rain could bring some relief from the air pollution but the meteorological department forecasted no such weather system.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) claimed that December had recorded the lowest daily average AQI in 2023 compared to the last five years. According to the Commission, not a single day in the month had reached the “severe” category, thanks to the continuous western disturbances and other weather activities that increased the wind speed.
