Four more people were arrested and booked for murder on Friday, taking the total arrests to eight, two days after the murder of a man on Holi. Members of the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Friday staged a protest against the killing of a 26-year-old man in South-West Delhi's Uttam Nagar area. The people were rocking a protest under the Uttam Nagar East Metro station, demanding strict action against the people in the killing of Tarun Singh.

The groups set a car and a motorcycle on fire and blocked the traffic for several hours.

What Happened On Holi

The tragedy dates back to March 4, after an 11-year-old girl splashed a water balloon at her father, drops of which also fell on a woman neighbour who belonged to a different community.

Even as the family apologised for the action of the minor, the woman turned violent and called her relatives and family members. A group of men stopped Tarun as he was returning to his home. Soon, a violent crash broke out between the groups. Many suffered with severe injuries, of whom Tarun's were the most serious.

While receiving treatment in the hospital, Tarun succumbed to his injuries. The family, broken, enraged, and vengeful, then staged a protest, along with the local residents, outside the Uttam Nagar police station on Thursday, demanding strict action against the family responsible for their son's untimely death. Police sources said protesters had gathered in large numbers and gheraoed the police station for several hours on Thursday and Friday.

Arrests made so far

The Uttam Nagar Police had arrested four people and apprehended a minor in connection with the death. The investigation team is now scanning CCTV footage from the area and recording statements of witnesses to establish the exact sequence of events.

"We got to know that the fight stemmed from throwing balloons. We have registered an FIR, arrested four, and apprehended one juvenile. Further investigation is underway," the Hindustan Times quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh as saying.

Police said security will remain heightened in the area, and strict vigil is being maintained. They also appealed to residents to maintain peace and not pay heed to rumours.
