Delhi Weather Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts generally cloudy skies and light rain for Monday, likely increasing the chill in Delhi NCR. Morning winds are expected to blow from the southeast at less than 4 kmph, accompanied by smog and moderate fog across most areas. Dense fog may also cover some regions, reducing visibility.
The IMD estimates that wind speeds will increase from the southeast to 6-8 kmph by the afternoon. By evening and night, the wind direction will shift to the northwest, slowing to under 6 kmph. Smog or light fog will likely persist during the evening and night hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures for Monday are forecast to hover around 18 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Dense fog enveloped the capital on Sunday, albeit for a shorter duration compared to Saturday. While Delhi remained under a foggy blanket for nine hours on Saturday, the period was reduced to three and a half hours on Sunday. The light rain expected on Monday, may further lower temperatures.
At the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, visibility dropped to zero between 4 am and 7:30 am, with easterly winds blowing at speeds of 8–13 kmph. Visibility at Safdarjung was limited to 50 meters, disrupting road, rail and air traffic.
The fog began clearing as the sun emerged during the day. On Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 18.6 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 9.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. Humidity levels fluctuated between 100 per cent and 68 per cent, adding to the discomfort caused by the fog and chill.
