The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rains on Thursday in Delhi. On Wednesday, there was bright sunshine with humidity but maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded below normal.
The minimum temperature of the capital was recorded at 24.2 degrees Celsius, 3.3 degrees below normal. At the same time, the maximum was 34.2 degrees Celsius, 4.6 degrees below normal. The level of humidity in the air was recorded between 100 to 65 per cent.
NCR cities Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad are also likely to witness light showers. Similar conditions may continue on Friday as well.
The weather department has forecasted that the sky in the national capital will remain cloudy throughout the day on Thursday. There is also a possibility of strong gusty winds, thunderclouds and lightning.
As per the Skymet Weather, the monsoon is rapidly progressing and is likely to hit Delhi between June 20 to 23, considering its early onset this time. The rainfall during the monsoon could also be more than normal.
Besides, Delhi’s AQI was recorded at 81 on Wednesday. The respite from pollution may continue due to light showers and storms.
The IMD had issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in several parts of the country. A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai while Pune and Thane were placed under orange alert.
Heavy to very heavy rains are also expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, east Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh, gangetic West Bengal, Konkan and Goa.
