Delhi Red Fort Blast: After massive explosion took place in moving car near Red Fort metro station gate number 1 in Delhi on Monday evening, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached LNJP hospital to take stock of the situation and meet the injured people. 

Amit Shah said that teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch arrived at the spot within 10 minutes of receiving information. Orders have been given to examine all the CCTV cameras nearby.

While there's was confusion over the type of car in which the explosion occurred, Shah confirmed that the blast took place in i20 car.

Delhi Car Explosion: What Amit Shah Said

Amit Shah, before leaving for Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) hospital said, "This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged some vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives. Within 10 minutes of receiving the information of the blast, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch arrived at the spot. The NSG and NIA teams, along with the FSL, have now begun a thorough investigation. Orders have been given to examine all nearby CCTV cameras. I have also spoken to the Delhi CP and the Special Branch in-charge. The Delhi CP and the Special Branch in-charge are present at the spot. We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation, taking all possibilities into account. All options will be investigated immediately and we will present the results to the public. I will be heading to the spot shortly and will also visit the hospital immediately."

As Union Minister reached hospital, he held meetings with doctors and Delhi Police Commissioner. 

Red Fort Explosion Occurred In i20 Registered In Haryana

The huge blast occurred a small i20 car, possibly registered in Haryana. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha told reporters, "Today at 6.52 pm a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle and, due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged. Some people have died and some have been injured."

Delhi Police sources told NDTV the explosion may have happened in a Hyundai i20 car, a hatchback. The car was reportedly carrying multiple people. The blast reportedly occurred in the rear of the vehicle, possibly in the boot. The explosion was powerful, but no craters were left.
