Rohini Park Incident: A seven-year-old boy died after he drowned in a pond which formed due to waterlogging in a community park in Sector 20 of Delhi's Rohini on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday evening, the police said, adding that the boy went to the park to play cricket when the incident took place.
This comes days after three UPSC aspirants died after they drowned in a waterlogged basement of an IAS coaching centre. The incident ignited a huge uproar in the capital with students taking to the streets against the apathy and mis-governance by the MCD and other Delhi bodies.
"On Saturday, around 6.30 pm, a PCR call regarding the drowning of a child in a park in Sector 20 in Rohini was received at Aman Vihar Police Station," a senior police officer said as quoted by PTI.
A police team quickly arrived at the scene and learned that the child had been taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, according to an officer. Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the child drowned in the park, which was waterlogged due to heavy rain. The identity of the deceased has been confirmed.
The officer stated that the body has been sent for a post-mortem, and appropriate actions are being taken. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events, the officer added.
Earlier today, in another incident a 13-year-old boy lost his life in Delhi after he came in contact with an electric pole. The incident of electrocution took place in the Ranhola area when the boy was playing Cricket.
He was immediately taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital by the PCR van where doctors declared him dead," said the DCP. An FIR has been registered under Section 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and an investigation is underway, the police said.
